I used a whole cloth backing for this piece. The blocks are made separately, and positioned on the black wool background and stitched into place with a blanket stitch. Another option would be to use a flannel fabric as the background. The wool is beautiful, and the needle glides through as if going through butter.

We completed our applique blocks using fusible web, and machine stitching with a tiny zig zag stitch. A block can be completed in an evening. Each block has been printed on a single page. This is a great option for quilt shops who plan to use the pattern as a block of the month.
