I
used a whole cloth backing for this piece. The blocks are made
separately, and positioned on the black wool background and stitched
into place with a blanket stitch. Another option would be to use a
flannel fabric or a black cotton as the background. The wool is
beautiful, and the needle glides through as if going through butter. The wool for the applique is all hand dyed.
